Effective Date: Oct 03, 2026
Last Updated: Oct 03, 2026
Welcome to Cue (also referred to as “Call Notes”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy explains how Cue collects, uses, discloses, and protects your information when you use our Android application (the “App”).
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using Cue, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect and How We Use It
Cue is designed primarily as a local-first call assistant and note-taking tool. We minimize data collection to only what is necessary to provide app features.
A. Call Logs and Phone State
- Permissions Used:
READ_CALL_LOG, READ_PHONE_STATE, READ_PHONE_NUMBERS, PROCESS_OUTGOING_CALLS, BIND_SCREENING_SERVICE
- Purpose: To detect incoming, outgoing, and completed phone calls in real-time, display interactive note overlays during or after calls, and associate notes with specific call logs.
- Storage: Cue does not record call audio. Call log data processed by Cue remains strictly on your device.
B. Contacts Information
- Permissions Used:
READ_CONTACTS
- Purpose: To display contact names, photos, and phone numbers alongside call logs and notes.
- Storage: Contact information is accessed locally on-device and is never uploaded to external servers or shared with third parties.
C. Notes, Tags, and Reminders
- Data Collected: Notes, text content, associated phone numbers, timestamps, tags, and reminder details created by you.
- Purpose: To organize and present your post-call and contact-related notes.
- Storage & Encryption: All notes are stored locally on your device in an encrypted SQLite database using SQLCipher (AES-256 encryption) with keys secured by the hardware-backed Android KeyStore.
D. On-Device Text Analysis (Smart Extraction)
- Technology: Google ML Kit Entity Extraction
- Purpose: To automatically detect actionable items in your notes (such as dates, times, phone numbers, and addresses) to provide quick calendar and reminder creation shortcuts.
- Privacy: Text analysis runs 100% locally on your device. Note content is never sent to Google or any other external server for processing.
E. Device Permissions for App Features
- System Overlay (
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW): Allows Cue to display pop-up note windows during or after phone calls.
- Foreground Service (
FOREGROUND_SERVICE): Enables continuous monitoring for completed calls to promptly offer note-taking prompts.
- Notifications (
POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Delivers reminders, note prompts, and backup status notifications.
2. Cloud Backup and Restore (Google Drive)
Cue offers an optional cloud backup feature.
- Service Used: Google Drive API (
appDataFolder)
- How It Works: If you choose to enable Google Drive backup, Cue uploads an encrypted copy of your database to your private Google Drive application folder (
appDataFolder).
- Privacy & Access:
- Backups are stored in a hidden application data folder on your Google Drive account, which is isolated and inaccessible to other apps.
- Cue developers do not have access to your Google Account credentials, email, or backup data.
- Data transfer occurs securely over encrypted HTTPS connections directly between your device and Google servers.
3. Advertising and Analytics
Cue uses third-party advertising services to support app development.
Google AdMob
- Service Used: Google AdMob (
com.google.android.gms.ads)

- Data Collected by AdMob: Google AdMob may automatically collect certain device and usage information, including:
